Family Dining in the Old City
Eating Out With Little Ones, Made Easy
Travelling around Chiang Mai with young kids, you quickly learn that most of the well-known family restaurants — the ones with big playgrounds — sit well outside town, in Hang Dong or San Pa Tong, a long drive from the Old City. Lovely for a day trip, less helpful when you’re staying inside the moat and just want to feed everyone without a production.
Thaan Aoan is the easy answer for families based in the Old City. We’ve been a family-run kitchen for over 18 years, so we get it — high chairs, a kids’ menu, a garden where little legs can stretch, and a changing area when you need one. Open all day from 7am to 9pm, so you can come on your toddler’s schedule, not the other way around.

High Chairs Ready
Just ask and we'll bring one over. No need to call ahead or balance a toddler on your lap through breakfast.
A Kids' Menu They'll Actually Eat
Simple, mild plates that little ones love — pancakes, rice porridge, fresh fruit. Easy on small tummies and fussy eaters.
A Garden to Stretch Their Legs
A shaded garden out back where kids can move around between courses, so the whole table stays relaxed.
Changing Facilities
A restroom with space to change a nappy — one less thing to worry about when you're out with a baby.

Come on your child's schedule — early breakfast, late lunch, or an early dinner before bedtime. No rush.

Make a Gentle Morning of It
One reason families like starting the day here is how little needs to happen next. We’re a few minutes’ walk from Wat Chedi Luang, whose huge ancient chedi and open temple grounds give small kids plenty of space to toddle around without crowds. The Three Kings Monument plaza nearby is another wide, flat, stroller-friendly spot to let off steam, and the Old City moat is an easy, shaded loop if you just want a slow post-breakfast wander before heading back for nap time.
Keep it to one gentle stop — with little ones, breakfast plus a single temple or plaza is usually a full, happy morning. For more ideas in the area, see our guide to breakfast in the Old City near Wat Chedi Luang.
